Feature & Follow Friday (1)

Welcome to our first Feature and Follow Friday meme post!
We've seen this meme in many blogs and we finally caved in and decided to try it out!
Feature & Follow Friday is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read. Want to participate? Find out how here.

Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I honestly like to be open minded when it comes to choosing a book. I read the synopsis and see the cover THEN if i'm interested I would start reading it. However I noticed that me and Science Fiction aren't good old friends.. we could be considered frenemies at times! This whole love hate relationship going on and all. You all heard of The Host by Stephanie Meyer (though also a dystopian), it is one of my all time favorite reads, however lately many of the science fiction novels do not appeal to me at all, and the some I've tried, I had to try really hard to finish the book. I am a huge Dystopian fan and sometimes the line between dystopian and science fiction is blurred in books, but trust me, I know when the book is a cross over, Science Fiction is a hit and miss with me, and I'd rather have more hits than misses!!

This is a pretty hard question for me, because i honestly enjoy reading every genre. Though if i had to choose my least favorite one, it would probably be historical fiction. I don't like history. I don't like how most of the time, i don't understand their choices, or how they act towards specific events or tragedies. I prefer reading books that are set in this century, so i can actually relate to the characters and etc. So if you gave me a historical book, id probably put it off for a very long time.

And I'm tied between Historical (of any kind) and erotica! I dont like it. I tried reading one and I ended up laughing at myself throughout almost the entire book because I felt so uncomfortable. I know that its silly and I did read the entire book, but I thought it was funny that I 'd literally laugh at myself about reading it. LOL

  9. I'm glad you ladies decided to join the FF and I could add your blog! I'm the same when it comes to scifi books and historical fiction. It can be hit or miss, it all just depends. I did love The Host though and there are some historical books that I really enjoyed (as long as they had some romance in them!)For me, I'm not a huge fan of nonfiction.

  10. I'm the same with science fiction. I'm just now dipping my toes into the sci fi genre, and it's been tough. I read Grimspace by Ann Aguirre, which wasn't HORRIBLE (it has some romance too which helped I think) but I couldn't connect with the characters as much as I wanted to. You might try that out, it's fairly popular, I believe.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Following you back. =)

  11. Thanks so much for following me, I'm returning the follow! I agree with you. I LOVE dystopian, as well, and I usually try to fit in a historical fiction here and there, but I always end up not being able to finish. As for sci-fi, I"m okay towards it! Have a nice weekend!

  16. Hopping through, completely agree with the Science Fiction! Some of it is great, but I've had more misses than hits so I don't tend to read it. I always check out recommended ones and read the jackets though, so maybe I'll find one that just opens the door to SciFi one day!

As for historial fiction, I don't do adult ones much (if ever) - but some YA historical fiction can be ok! Libba Bray is my one exception, I loved hers so much that I'll try anything she's got (which apparently she does later this year, so hooray!)

Happy Friday! New GFC follower :)

  17. New follower! I so agree how dystopians and sci fi's boundaries can blur, but like you, I can tell the difference! I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction either, but I will occasionally find a good one! Here's my FF if you'd like to follow back: http://theonceandfuturelibrarian.blogspot.com/2012/01/follow-friday-4.html
