Interview & Giveaway: Brigid Kemmerer

We are happy to welcome the amazing Brigid Kemmerer to MajiBookshelf! It's such an honor to be interviewing Brigid, and if you haven't read her books yet, you totally should because they are so fun and addicting! You can check out my review of Storm, the first book in the Elemental Series HERE, and Spark, the second book in the Elemental Series HERE

Brigid Kemmerer was born in Omaha, Nebraska, though her parents quickly moved her all over the United States, from the desert in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the lakeside in Cleveland, Ohio, and several stops in between, eventually settling near Annapolis, Maryland. Brigid started writing in high school, and her first real “novel” was about four vampire brothers causing a ruckus in the suburbs. Those four brothers are the same boys living in the pages of The Elemental Series, so Brigid likes to say she’s had four teenage boys taking up space in her head for the last seventeen years. (Though sometimes that just makes her sound nuts.)

Find Brigid Kemmerer on her Website I Twitter I Goodreads
1) Describe yourself in a tweet (140 characters)
Wife, mother, coffee-drinker. (In other words, fairly average.)

2) Do you have any weird habits?
I have to write with headphones or earbuds. Even if music isn't playing.

3) Do you collect anything other than books?
Not really. I'm not much of a collector. I even give all my books away.

4) How does your workplace look like? (Provide pics if possible)
Well, if you're from the IRS, I have a home office. (And yes, I really do have one.) But really, I write anywhere I can sit with my laptop. I'm afraid a picture of that would look like a MacBook ad. :-P

5) If you were an elemental, what power would you want to have? (Fire, Air, Earth, Water)
I can never decide! I think they're all pretty cool!

6) How did you come up with the idea of The Elemental Series?
The first novel I wrote in high school was about four vampire brothers, named Michael, Nicholas, Gabriel, and Christopher. It was a silly story, but I still have most of it on paper. In my twenties, when I really began to take writing seriously, I wrote a few books but was unable to find a literary agent or a publisher. I couldn’t get those four brothers out of my head – but I didn’t want to do vampires again. I started tossing around ideas that would work with the number four. Four horsemen of the apocalypse. Four leaf clovers. Four, four, four. The four elements of earth, air, fire, and water seemed to work best—and I had a lot of ideas how I could make it fun. What teenagers wouldn’t want to be able to control the elements?
7) Have you ever met the models on the cover of your books?
No! That's probably my most frequently asked question. When I heard they were hiring models to do a photo shoot for the covers, I asked if I could come watch. (The answer was no. :-D)

8) What do you do in your free time?
What's free time? No, seriously, every minute is precious. I have a full time job and three kids in the house. I spend my work lunch hours trying to catch up on writing email, and I typically feed the baby a bottle with my smartphone in hand.

9) What was the last book you have read?
Decked with Holly by Marni Bates. Super cute. I loved it.

  9. I love this series so much! Gabriel is my absolute favorite, I plan on reading his book again and again:) I think I'd want control over water if I had a choice, fire would be cool but I'd be terrified of hurting someone with it. But if I had water think how great Gabriel and I would be together ;-)

  16. The idea of using the number 4 to create the paranormal powers is awesome! From the top of my head, I thought of the 4 seasons, but yeah using elements are better :)

P.S. The GFC seems to be down, I think you have to fix it ;)

  37. I haven't read them yet, but they do sound great. I laughed at the bit about the home office - I just sat through the portion of Income Tax Law where we discussed the home office deduction and it can get so complicated that a lot of people just give up on that particular deduction.
