Oppression tour stop: Interview with Jessica Therrien

I had the pleasure of interviewing Jessica therrien, author of the new greek mythology YA novel "Oppression" which is the first installment in the "Children of the Gods" series! Jessica had some funny and quirky facts for all of you guys, be sure to check the interview out and also that gorgeous cover of Oppression!

1. Oppression is a Greek mythological novel, so we need to ask, which Greek mythology fascinates you?

The first thing that came to mind was The Odyssey. I just remember studying it in high school and being completely fascinated. I also got a lot of inspiration from the Homeric Hymns (William reads part of one in Oppression).

2. If you could choose one "gift" or power, like the ones some of the characters have, which would you choose?
I would love to fly. Who wouldn’t, right?

3. What was a major inspiration for Oppression? In three words
Falling in love.

Oppression (Children of the Gods, #1)4. Any story behind choosing the title "Oppression" for this novel?
The book was originally titled The Descendants. I loved that title (and still do) but George Clooney decided to swoop in and make a movie called…you guessed it, THE DESCENDANTS. I was super bummed. I sat down with my publisher for a whole day going over new titles. In the end I really liked Oppression, maybe even better than The Descendants.

5. To conclude, share with us any quirky, or unique habit of yours, for instance I tend to make lists for EVERYTHING.
I do a lot of my writing in the car while my husband is driving. For some reason, it gets my writing mojo working.

That's a wrap! If you want to learn more about Oppression and Jessica Therrien make sure to check out the links below!

  1. I make lists for everything to (not sure which blogger posted the interview but that's too funny!)

And Jessica, that's really interesting that you write in the car.. most people I've met can't read/write because it gives them car/motion sickness. I've never attempted more than a quick note while being the passenger so I wouldn't know.

Just a few more days til I start reading Oppression *yippee!*

    2. Hey there *waves*.. same here. My boss yells at me because I do a lot of my listing on sticky notes and have them all over my office. He has finally convinced me to do it all on a notepad.. but I miss my sticky note lists!! :D
