The Struggles of a Reader

A few months back, I did a reader struggles post over on YA Bookmark. Us readers have so many problems and various struggles that one post just didn't cut it. Here are some more reader struggles for your enjoyment!

1. Putting off a book because you were so excited for it that you just end up staring at it for weeks.

Have you ever gotten that new release/sequel,etc. that you were super excited to read but then once you had it, you just didn't read it whether this was because of hype, nervousness, or you just didn't want it to be over?

2. When your brain is 99% book related things and you are asked a non-bookish question.

With all off the titles, authors, releases dates, series orders, it's a little hard to memorize everything that is not book related.

"Uhh... yea.. sure.. SO, did you hear about the cover change of this series? how dare they right?"

3. Going back and forth on whether to buy a book while at the store.
"I mean, I really want it. The cover is gorgeous and I think it'll be good but it's so expensive. Let me check the reviews. Eh, they're mediocre. But I think I will enjoy it. AH. What to do?"

4. When you get to the really great part of a book and the real world interrupts you.

Don't they understand you just reached the ever awaited climax of your book? The part you've been waiting for! GEEZ.

5. When you can't decide which library books to check out so you end up taking the whole library.

This book looks good. Ooh, beautiful cover! Hmm, this one is that book everyone has been talking about. Oh wait, there's that new release that just came out! There's the sequel to that book I read last week. So many decisions..... Or, I could just take them all home! Let's do that.

6. When people ask you what you like to do and you only have one answer.

Well....... about that.. Uhm, yeah. I like reading? Fictional characters and worlds. Basically anything fictional. Yup.

7. When you see someone across the room dog ear their pages.

This doesn't affect all people but for some, when they see this, their soul shatters into a billion (and one) pieces.

"Would you ever tattoo your kid with his class schedule? no? so why would you permanently leave a mark on this precious baby?"

8. When you read that really emotional part of your book and family and friends decide to interrupt.

They always have impeccable timing, don't they?

"Hey, you want to...." sees all the tears and emotions on my face "..... I'll... come later"

9. When the release date of one of your most anticipated releases has FINALLY arrived.

'Admit it, you've had a countdown on your phone for this book ever since it was first put onto Goodreads.'

'When the workers at the bookstores treat you like a drug addict and nicely tell you many times over the many trips you took a week before the release that no.. the book has not yet been released early.... it will release on the exact release date'

10. When this is your #relationshipgoals.

You know you've wished for this at least once. Once a day.....

First question for any potential suitor/guy "So.... do you like to read?... and the answer will be a make it or break it for the future of us by the way" #sorrynotsorry

    1. Thank you! And yes, I do it all the time. I am always nervous because if a book has been out for a while, I can usually find it cheaper elsewhere and I never know if I should get it then or wait. So hard!!

  3. 1. Or sometimes I'm just not in the mood for it anymore.
    3. YES. 'Do I really need it?' YES.. no.. YES.. no?
    6. And then the looks some people give you. They either love it or they think you are the most boring creature in the world.

    1. Yes!! I have that issue with #1 as well. I'll be so excited to get it and then BAM, not in the mood. I do that with #3 ALL THE TIME. It's crazy! I could probably read the whole book in the time I spend contemplating on whether to buy it or not! And yup #6. If only more people loved it... ;)

  4. #1 - YES. This JUST happened to me with Winter. I was like: when that baby gets here, I am diving in! And then when it did, I stared at it for days like O.O I finally did start on it though LOL!

#4 - real life interrupting books at an INTENSE/CRITICAL scene is always death. That gif perfectly sums up how it feels too.

#8 - This is THE WORST. Don't interrupt my FEELS!!

    #9 - YES!!! OMG!!

All of these are 10000% accurate^^ Awesome post!

  5. Naw, this is an adorable post! I agree with all of these, but especially the ones about family members interrupting reading times and mocking you for crying/getting emotional over books. They just don't get it!

    1. Aw, thank you!! And yes, I have the same issue with the library. I love the library though but so many of my books that I checked out are returned unread which makes me sad, lol.
