January Epic Recs: Aliens, High Fantasy, and the famous Darkling?

Hosted by Amber @ Books of Amber and Judith @ Paperiot

Brief explanation for the newbies!
The slogan above explains it all. Through this book club, you and a friend force...err.. recommend books to each other... and you must read that book. By the end of the month you each make a post of the book you read, your thoughts and opinions, and also including next month's recs.

Be sure to head over to Mel's blog @ The Daily Prophecy!

For the month of December (post here) Mel recommended me Daughter of the Forest while I recommended her The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (Check out Mel's review here!). Unfortunately, my library asked for Daughter of the Forest too soon and I wasn't able to read it so she picked another book and that was This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1)

Mini review/rant of This Song Will Save Your Life:
Oh my heart… this book was just SO heartbreaking, and beautiful, and got me SO frustrated, angry, mad, sad, teary, hopeful, happy, and on an emotional roller coaster throughout it all. I teared up SO many times while reading it and I just loved it so much. The self discovery, learning to love yourself and not blaming yourself for how people around you are so messed up (I'm looking at you high school bullies) was just so powerful. People say YA books aren't intellectual or don't benefit readers in any way.. but I challenge them with this book. I have been raving about this book on my YouTube channel and it has got many people interested in it. I hope more people read it because this book is just perfect.

The Host (The Host, #1)Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1)
I recommended Mel one of my all time favorite books (the pressure is on huh?) and it is The Host by Stephenie Meyer. This is one of the few.. actually only sci-fi book that is on my all time favorites list. If you guys haven't read it but have seen the movie.. I'm straight up going to tell you that the movie sucks so pick up the book! Mel recommended me Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I have been always trying to pick up high fantasy books but I'm not sure I read a single one in 2013! *gasp* so…

  3. I loved Shadow and Bone and I really hope you do too. I didn't read with the hype and I enjoyed it a lot more. The Host never really floated my boat in comparison to her Twilight series. Great post, hope you enjoy, Juhina! :)

    1. I'M EXCITED TOO! A swoon worthy love triangle? coming from the girl who isn't a big fan of romance in her books? I'm so intrigued!
