I picked up Half-Blood after I read both Obsidian and Onyx and basically fell in love with Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing and characters. all The Lux and JLA fans recommended this series for me and I thought I should give it a shot. While I did enjoy Half-Blood, it isn't close to the level of Obsidian in my opinion. I know people say that the first book isn't the greatest in the series but I have to say that I loved Aiden and the whole forbidden relationship aspect. I do hope JLA doesn't stretch that and keep us and the characters frustrated. As for the paranormal plot, I am not the biggest fan, especially with the whole mother issue that the main protagonist, Alex, is facing. I love the boarding school setting, you guys know I am a BIG fan of that book setting, and I love how independent and kick butt Alex is. I wrote this review literally months (maybe 4?) after I read it but I still seem to remember a ton of it, even if I don't remember ALL the character's names. This shows you that this book and series are definitely worth it, however you shouldn't compare it with The Lux series. I can't wait to pick up Pure and see how the plot progresses!

I know I reviewed the sequel of Insight, Manipulation, for the blog tour a couple of weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. However I can't say the same for its predecessor, Insight. I felt that insight was a bit too insta-love and sappy for me. Too much romance too fast which turns me off a book immediately. Obviously I liked it enough to continue reading the series but only because I have faith in Jolene Perry and because the second book is about two new and different characters. This book centers around two teenagers, one a recent high school transfer. She, Micah, can see things when she touches people. She sees something disturbing when she touches Landon which she tries to stay away from but ends up feeling really guilty. Landon takes an interest in her while she wants to stay as far away from him as possible. There is a paranormal mystery in this book that is passed on to book two, however it is not really explored in this book. This is why I enjoyed the second book more. I would definitely recommend you guys reading this one and then picking up the second book, especially paranormal fans.

  1. I have not started the Covenant series yet. But I intend to. And thanks for letting me know that maybe the first book is not the best. I felt that way about Vampire Academy and stopped reading after the first one and boy did I feel dumb when I did a re-read a few years later!

  2. I have so much love for the Covenant Series! I loveeeee Aiden. Can't decide if I like him better than Daemon though. They're too different yet so similar. But book 3 of this series made me swoon so hard for Aiden I practically fainted. Def keep reading it gets so much better!

  3. I haven't read the Covenant series, yet, hopefully soon. It does sounds like I would enjoy it. Insight seems to be one that I might have to see if I can find it. Great review. :D

  6. Ahh, sorry Insight didn't work out for you. I can certainly see why, though. I hate insta-love/when the romance overshadows the plot! Thanks for the honest reviews!

  7. I enjoyed Half-Blood, Juhina and I think the books get better, so stick with it. I've read and enjoyed Jolene Perry's work as well but I've never seen this novel. I'll have to pick it up. Great reviews. :)

  8. I haven't started the Covenant series yet (sad, I know) but everyone has such great stuff to say about it and Aiden of course sounds great too. I like the school setting too, but I get so scared to admit I'm not a huge JLA fan *hides*. Nonetheless, maybe someday I will give this series a try!

As for Insight, I haven't read an Jolene Perry book either but am eager to! It sounds nice, but it's disappointing that you didn't like it as much as you'd have liked to.

    Lovely reviews, Juhina!
