St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
After hearing millions of great things about the Vampire Academy, I bought all seven. I didn't start them until Vampire Academy got the top votes from my Help Me Choose video (Which you can watch on MajiBookshelf's YouTube channel). I am so glad, and I thank all of those who voted, because I loved and devoured this book. It was unbelievably amazing, and tremendously addicting. Every page was full of deliciousness! The main protagonist, Rose, is a Dhampir. Dhampir's are those who are born from a Moroi and a human. Most Dhampir's are raised to be bodyguards who protect the Moroi. Rose is a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, who is also a Moroi vampire princess. Rose and Lissa ran away from St. Vladimir's Academy, but not long, they were found and got dragged back to the academy.
St. Vladimir's Academy being a boarding school, I loved this book even more! It's always fun when books are taken place in boarding school, because that way I am always able to connect with the characters better! When Rose and Lissa are back at the academy, Rose starts her training sessions. As a bodyguard, she needs to train in order to protect. The thing about Rose is that because she had time away from the academy, she was lacking in skill compared to the other trainees. That's when she is assigned to take extra special classes with Dimitri. (Time for everyone to swoon). Dimitri is the hot teacher, who is about 24 years old (sorry I wrote 27 before!). Yes, you're probably thinking he's too old for Rose to me romantically interacted with, but like Rose said, there's only a 7 year difference. haha. I honestly loved reading about Dimitri and Rose when they were together. I'm honestly not a fan of the student/teacher relationship, but I gotta admit, it has a nice twist to it. Romance aside, the action in this book was awesome.
Overall, I enjoyed every bit of this book. From the characters to the romance and the action. I am glad that I started this series, because I'm absolutely excited to find out more and go on this long ride. Frostbite, the second book in the Vampire Academy series, is waiting for me on my shelf. I Can't wait to start it!

  6. Although I liked the of plot for VA I couldn't get on with the mc so I had to abandon it. I love the Bloodline spin-off series though, Sydney is more my type of heroine. Glad you enjoyed this!

  7. I'm so glad you liked this! It's one of my FAVOURITE series of all time haha. The dramas just keep coming in the next books. :) I don't really want to be that annoying person that points out something wrong, but Dimitri is 24, so it's only a 7 year difference :p slightly better haha.

  8. I also am in love with this series, I can't believe this is your first time around! This is the series that actually got me into reading YA! " who is about 27 years old. Yes, your probably thinking he's too old for Rose to me romantically interacted with, but like Rose said, there's only a 10 year difference." Whaaaa, for real? I've read the books four times and I never knew that! Huh... eh small detail ;)

  11. I read this book, and I liked it, but thinking more about it makes me kind of starting to dislike it.. I don't know why, but I didn't LOVE it as much as everybody else.. Was It because of Dimitri that everybody LOVED this book? Was the reason that Rose is fierce and all kinds of stuff? I don't know.. I'm hoping to find answers to this questions in the next books from the series.
I'm glad that you loved it. I'm gonna wait for you to read Frostbite and the other books and then maybe I'll decide if it's worth reading them.
    Stay awesome :)

  15. I felt Dimitri was still a little bit too old for her but I think it was just the teacher position that made me a little weirded out. I get that they have similar interests though. I always preferred Adrian who you will meet in the next book! But I still just love this series!

  18. I just started this series at the end of last year. I've read the first two books so far and I have to say they are addicting. I liked both of them a lot but I don't yet love the series. I guess that is because I'm just not taken with Dimitri. Maybe I'll be an Adrian girl.

Thanks for the great review, I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.

  21. Isn't this book the best thing ever?! I just started this series this year and I can't BELIEVE I've never read it before. (I'm on Blood Promise now, and I must say, I have cried a lot already haha.) Rose is so badass and awesome, and I just love Dimitri. SO MUCH. Too bad you didn't like the student/teacher thing though. I didn't mind. There's just too much awesome going on!
