It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.
After reading Anna Dressed in Blood last year, I was very excited to find out what was going to happen next. Anna Dressed in Blood had a shocking ending, so I was glad the wait to find out is finally over. Girl of Nightmares starts off with Cas being overly upset about what happened to Anna. After a while, he starts seeing her ghost. That's when Cas makes it his mission to find out where Anna is, and how to "rescue" her. I found it kind of weird how Cas kind of started "obsessing" over the fact to get her back, even though he does love her. It was also fun to read about Thomas and Carmel again.
As I kept reading, there were many parts that I found that were a bit boring. Sometimes I found it to be a bit much detailed in the magic/spiritual stuff, but maybe because I always have a hard time understanding them. In this book, we got to learn more about Thomas and Carmel. I really hoped that Anna was more available throughout the book, because I really loved her in Anna Dressed in Blood. We did meet a new character in this book, but I hoped we got to meet her earlier in the book, and not towards the end.
Overall, there were many disappointments in this book. I did enjoy it, but I had higher expectations for it. There were many mixed reviews for this book, so if you liked Anna Dressed in Blood, I still recommend you to read it. I will be looking forward to Kendare Blake's future books!

  1. To be honest, I was quite disappointed with Anna Dressed In Blood...but I still decided to read the second book because of so many glowing reviews. It's such a pity it didn't quite meet your expectations! :( But I guess I'll still read it...I can't resist a ghost story! And I can't wait to meet this new character :D Fab review, Farah<3

  5. It seems like most people have enjoyed Anna slightly more than this one. I loved the first book, but I'm in no rush to get the sequel read now. Great review, Farah!

  6. Well that sucks. I still haven't read the first book, but to know the second one was just okay makes me sad.

I will still read the first book soon though.

  7. I've been on the fence about picking this one up. Anna was an ok read for me so I don't know if I would enjoy the sequel. Great review!

  8. For me this is actually a good read but if you'd compare it to Anna Dressed in Blood, the latter is better. Although there were drawbacks in this second installment I still enjoyed reading it. :) Thanks for the honest review!

  9. It's a shame this was a bit of a let down, it seems to be common in sequels!

  10. I liked the first one better, too Farah. Cas was so mopey in this one. The spark and spunk I loved about him in the first books was sort of gone here. I agree, I wished we would've had that new character in the beginning. Great review. :)

  11. The first book didn't really do well for me so I dropped the series. I'm not into this kind of stories, I was not really scared at all. As much as I want to give this book a chance I guess I'll think about it more now that you said it was disappointing in so many ways.

  14. I have yet to read Anna, but I have heard nothing but great things about it. I have been very curious to see how it turns out. I'm sorry this installment didn't live up to your expectations. :( I think I just might read the first one, and wait to start this one. Great review, Farah! :)

  16. Huh. I thought I'd heard from most people that Girl of Nightmares was much stronger than Anna, but I see from the comments that you're not alone in finding this one weaker. I still have yet to read this series, but I'm excited to hear that Anna has a shocking ending. Those can be fun! :)
