The Ward by Jordana Frankel
Sixteen-year-old Ren is a daredevil mobile racer who will risk everything to survive in the Ward, what remains of a water-logged Manhattan. To save her sister, who is suffering from a deadly illness thought to be caused by years of pollution, Ren accepts a secret mission from the government: to search for a freshwater source in the Ward, with the hope of it leading to a cure.
However, she never expects that her search will lead to dangerous encounters with a passionate young scientist; a web of deceit and lies; and an earth-shattering mystery that’s lurking deep beneath the water’s rippling surface.
Jordana Frankel’s ambitious debut novel and the first in a two-book series, The Ward is arresting, cinematic, and thrilling—perfect for fans of Scott Westerfeld or Ann Aguirre.
As you'll notice from the title, this book is AUTHENTIC Dystopian. I have grown TIRED of books being labeled dystopian only to get disappointed when I start reading them and find out that NO they are not dystopian but rather sci-fi or paranormal or futuristic. I haven't read a good dystopian novel in a VERY long time (bless Veronica Roth, Tahereh Mafi, and Suzanne Collins). I really need this book, and for the time being if you guys know of any great dystopians, let me know! - Juhina
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that showcases upcoming releases that we are excited about.
Oooh, this sounds good! I'm missing authentic dystopians too :( There's one new release coming up that I'm really excited for: Orleans by Sherri L. Smith :D Maybe you can check that out!
ReplyDeleteWoah! Great Choice... The cover looks good and the plot sounds unique and interesting. :D

This one sounds so awesome!! I am definitely looking forward to it. Waterlogged city, government conspiracy, and female daredevil!! How can I not want this!!
ReplyDeleteWow! I am really craving (if that makes sense) a great dystopian read, but I'm afraid they might all be the same. Just like you, I feel the genre is usually mixed up. The Ward, however, sounds like a nice and different read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing it and thanks for stopping by my post earlier and for following us! In short, a BIG thank you, Juhina and Farah! :D
Happy reading, girls!

I actually like all types of dystopia so I don't mind when they're mixed only if writing and the story are good. The Ward is something new for me :) I like the blurb and I hope I'll get a chance to read it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by :)
I've seen this book on Goodreads, but never really looked at the cover or the synopsis until your post, and all I can say is that it's great. The pic. of the girl in the title is cool, and I'll be adding this to my pile. Thanks for sharing!!

DeleteThis is on my TBR list too! I am a dystopian fanatic and can't get enough. But you are right, some of them are not very authentic. The Ward has a lot of promise. And the cover reminds me of the Day After Tomorrow movie. :D
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, this one sounds very good! I like dystopian, so this one is definitely on my wish list :) The cover is pretty.

I think it might be finally happening... dystopian books aren't grabbing me quite as much as they used to! I do still really like the sound of this book though and wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Brilliant pick. :)
