The day I turned 16, my boyfriend-to-be died. I brought him back to life. Then things got a little weird...

Molly Bartolucci wants to blend in, date hottie Rick and keep her zombie-raising abilities on the down-low. Then the god Anubis chooses her to become a reaper-and she accidentally undoes the work of another reaper, Rath. Within days, she’s shipped off to the Nekyia Academy, an elite school that trains the best necromancers in the world. And her personal reaping tutor? Rath. Who seems to hate her guts.

Rath will be watching closely to be sure she completes her first assignment-reaping Rick, the boy who should have died. The boy she still wants to be with. To make matters worse, students at the academy start turning up catatonic, and accusations fly-against Molly. The only way out of this mess? To go through hell. Literally.
After reading the synopsis of Undeadly, I immediately thought "Holy cow, she brings her boyfriend back to life?" So you can probably see how excited I was. The awesome and weird thing about this book was the world Molly was living at. Zombies were something normal to the point where her own dad owns a Zombie company, where he does God knows what. I really forgot. Despite all that, Molly tried her best to be part of those who were normal. She got a hot date, Rick, and her life was going exactly the way she planned until the day he dies. See, that's not exactly the major problem. Yea Rick dies, but Molly returns 3/5 of his soul, and he's back. I might really suck at explaining some parts because I was confused a lot while reading Undeadly
Let's talk about Molly. You see, she was one of those characters that some people might think is hilarious, and some might just want to stab her with a 9-inch kitchen knife. Honestly for me, she wasn't that bad. Molly was sarcastic, and sometimes that might be mixed up with stupidness, and that's what a lot of people thought she was. I'm not going to say she was smart, but I think she kind of "acted" stupid and was kind of being sarcastic you know? Anyways, Molly gets this mission from Anubis in her dream (apparently he's the guy they worship, I'm not even sure how he fits in in the story), and has to complete the request. Molly gets sent to Nekyia Academy to master her necromancer powers, and there, she gets a personal reaping tutor called Rath. Molly and Rath's relationship was kind of funny to me at parts, because they were both very sarcastic, and got on eachother's nerves a lot. You can say that they might have a love hate relationship.
The ending was.. oh God.. I don't even know how to explain it. I think I kind of read the last thirty pages with a face like this: O.O Sorry, but it was SO confusing! There was too much witchy zombie creepy weird things happening at the same time, and I think it kind of went a bit overboard. I can say that it really sucked the whole fun of the book. The whole part of her trying to fix her problem that happened with Rick, and then trying to actually go to hell? Umm what? I was just shocked, and confused as hell. Overall, it was a good book. Wasn't one of those that wowed me, but it wasn't bad either. Though I'm sure people would enjoy it because the writing was good, and the flow of the book was smooth as well.

So yes, I will be having my own dream movie cast for Undeadly! It's actually the first time i do it, so it was very fun picking out who acts who and all, making me feel like a director *blushes* lol.

I think Willa Holland would to a great job acting as Molly Bartulocci. Willa has a very innocent look, but you know she can kick some butt. I think she really fits, and I can already imagine everything in my head. *director mode on*

Rick kind of looks like Andrew Garfield with orange hair (Sorry Andrew, I love you). I was kind of hesitant picking Andrew because I really like him, and I wouldn't want him being Rick, but he FITS!

I have a feeling that many people would disagree with this, but yes, I choose Robert Sheehan to act as Rath from Undeadly! He's got that bad look, and not with his curly hair, but with straight! He can probably lose the beard, but I'm telling you, he's Rath. I was actually thinking hmm... I imagined Rath with black hair, piercing eyes, with that tough, bad boy image. I literally took 10 minutes thinking of who it'll be. Robert it is!

  3. Ooh, I love the cast! It's too bad that the story fell though...and the number 1 thing that stuck out is that the Anubis wasn't explained- he's the god of the dead in Ancient Egypt mythology. Second would probably be the confusion throughout the book. >_<

    Anyway, great review Farah!

  5. Great review.. i know what you mean, sometimes YA books get too magic-y and it can be easy to get lost.. that for sure has happened to me plenty of time but i love that you picked some cast memebers! great post!

  6. Great review Farah. I'm not happy to hear that this is confusing but I'm glad to hear that you found Molly to be tolerable, so many people have disliked her. Like you, when I heard about this book I was really excited and couldn't wait to read it, and now I have a review copy I have to try get to, not looking forward to it so much anymore. But I totally agree with you about Robert Sheehan, I love him, and he's homegrown lol. But not with the curly hair. I'm going to picture him now when I'm reading about Rath :D

  7. I'm glad to see that you could tolerate Molly, because I have heard some things about her I really didn't like. The ending sounds very confusing. I have an eARC and I will read it, so we will see.. Great review :)

  8. i love all the changes you keep making to your blog design. Where do you start? I want a cleaner simpler, but still pretty design. I have been looking through tons of templates and I can't find anything I like enough without major modifications and I don't know where to start with those.

  9. I was confused by the ending too, but mostly because I stopped paying attention and got left behind. Not that I really cared, in all honesty. I somewhat enjoyed this book at times, but I was hoping for better. Lovely review!

  10. Hmm...don't know if I'd pick this up if it's that confusing. It doesn't sound like this story made much of an impression on you, Farah. The premise sounds interesting but the story sounds unmemorable. Thanks for the honest review. :)

  11. The ending does seem a little unexpected but since this story is about necro stuff, I think having the trip to hell seems appropriate. BTW, it's so much fun to see who you're picking for the cast :)

  12. I definitely understand the confusion, but surprisingly for me, I wasn't that confused while reading this one. Maybe because I've dealt with this type of mythology before, but I kind of got it. But I totally agree about the ending- I was like, 'Wait, what just happened?!'. That part was definitely something that could have been improved upon. I also think you're spot on about Molly! She was sarcastic and stupid, but I actually kind of liked her. Yes, she grated on my nerves, but I didn't hate her like some people did. I'm glad that you at least liked her, Farah!

Fantastic review! <3 The dream cast was also very fun. :D

  13. I enjoyed this one! I also liked Molly. I thought she was funny and sarcastic and not really as dumb as she kind of played. I think she just wanted to be a normal teenager and I can't blame her for that. The world was interesting!
