Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
The Immortal Rules is the first book I read by Julie Kagawa, and now I finally understand why everyone loves her! A story about Vampires in a dystopian world, what more fun could anyone want? Even though The Immortal Rules was about 500 pages, it honestly felt like it was way less than that. Allison is the main protagonist in this book. Now in the world where she lives in, Vampires rule. Allison lives in the Fringe, which is the outermost circle in the Vampire city. She has a group of friends, and day by day, they hunt for food to survive. One day, they go hunting, and Allison gets caught in a situation where she almost dies. Given a choice by a vampire himself, die, or become an immortal like him.
I didn't understand Allison's choice of accepting to be a vampire. Through the first chapters, she clearly states all the hate she has for those "blood-suckers". To me, it felt like she'd rather die than become one of them, but I was mistaken. I kind of felt that Allison was greedy to actually allow herself to turn into a monster who might kill other people than just let herself die. Though people do tend to be greedy in life or death situations. Now let me talk about Zeke, my favorite part of the story. While Allison hides in the forest, she meets some nice people on her way who take her in, and ofcourse they don't knows that she's a vampire. While Allison has to keep her identity secret, she starts having feelings for Zeke. I liked this part, because she knows how much he hates the Vampires, and she really didn't want him to know that she is one of them.
Honestly, I was never bored while reading this book. Every chapter was filled with excitement as the last, and I do recommend it to any paranormal/dystopian fans! Even though it was 500 pages, it didn't feel like Julie added extra boring information that could have been erased instead. I'm glad I got my hands on this, and I really can't wait to read the second book of the "Blood of Eden" trilogy. (Well I think it's a trilogy)

  4. I haven't read the book yet (I want to read her Iron Fey series first), but I totally understand what you meant with Allison's decision. Flaking is a human thing, and in desperate times, we go on survival mode.

Great review, and I am really aching to read the book now!
