Life On The Edge Giveaway and Author Interview!

Life On the Edge

Hey guys! remember the figure skating book I reviewed at the end of january? well Jennifer Comeaux, the author behind this wonderful book is here for an interview and also a great swag giveaway! Take a look at my review here. Those of you interested in becoming published authors might want to check
out Guide to Career Education’s list of schools offering writing degrees.

Get to know the author better:
I started writing stories when I was seven years old and dreamed of one day seeing my name in print. Dreams of being a writer were overruled by practicality, however, and I decided to go the business school route, earning a master's degree in accounting from Tulane University. While at Tulane, I kept my creative muscles loose by writing for the school newspaper, The Hullabaloo. Seeing my name in a byline was great, but I still dreamed of writing a novel and having it published.
Writing was put on hold while I became a Certified Public Accountant and worked as a corporate tax manager. Not until a few years ago did I pick up my writer's pen again, thanks to encouragement from a friend.
When I'm not working or writing, I enjoy traveling, especially to figure skating events, and photographing all of my adventures. Attending competitions has allowed me to visit some wonderful places and meet some wonderful people. I couldn't have written LIFE ON THE EDGE without these experiences!

1. Ok, now that we're past the initial bio, we want you to give us three facts about yourself, GO!
I was born on Mardi Gras. I don't like hot drinks like coffee or hot chocolate. I can't swim.

2. Emily, the protagonist is a pair skater. If you were a figure skater, what would you compete in? and why?
I would compete in ice dance because I'd like to skate with a partner, but I don't think I'd be brave enough to be thrown across the ice! Ice dance looks so fun with all the different themes and stories that can be explored in the programs.

3. What made you decide to write about figure skating from all the different sports?
Figure skating is the sport I love the most and am the most enamored with. I find everything about it fascinating, from the grind of everyday training to the intensity and excitement of competitions. I think it's the perfect combination of sport and art!

4. Who was your favorite character to write about in your novel? and why?
I felt very connected to Emily since I was inside her head for the whole story. I loved telling the story through her eyes and letting people feel her emotions along with her. But I also loved writing Chris because of his sense of humor. I had a lot of fun with him!

5. Have you ever tried figure skating? How did you do your research for this book?
There aren't any rinks near my town, so it was only recently that I tried skating for the first time. I stepped on the ice and was terrified! I clung to the boards most of the time. For the book, I used the knowledge I've gained from years of watching competitions, and I also watched YouTube videos of performances to verify some of the technical details of the skating moves. I read a lot of publications and articles about skating, and I also attend many competitions, so that also helped as I wrote the book.
*This is one of Jennifer's favorite skating moments. I held my breath through out the whole performance, it was definitely breathtaking and so beautiful!

6. Ok last question! For your future book, will it be another contemporary or will you explore other genres? And if you could share about any future work.
I have some ideas for a sequel to Life on the Edge! I think there is more to explore in Emily and Sergei's story. I've also thought about doing future books centered around some of the supporting characters from Life on the Edge.

Thanks Jennifer! I would love to go see a few ice skating competitions myself! they are a mix of sports and art! Also, a sequel sounds great, and especially a spin off with Chris as the main lead!

  3. I was always so interested in lives of athletes and artists. I mean, it all looks so glamurous on the outside, but it can be so ugly when no one's looking. That's why I love books like this one. Will defintiely check it out.
