I heard great things about this book, so when we saw it in the library, we decided to borrow it. Unfortunately, I didn't see what was so great about this book after all. Just wasn't my cup of tea.
Miles goes to boarding school to find his "Great Perhaps" and then meets some kids. He becomes friends with them, crushes on one of them, and they all mess around causing trouble.The whole time I was reading, I was asking myself, "Why am I reading about a couple of school kids messing around?". There wasn't a point to the story until "after" something happened, which happens more than halfway through the book.
The "after" part does stir some things up and kind of makes the book interesting. I don't want to spoil anything so I won't talk much about the "after" event. It was a shock, and held great meaning towards the end, but overall I was just disappointed.

I have heard so much buzz about how amazing John Green is. To be honest, I've never been intrested in reading any of his books. Lot's of people love them, but they just don't appeal to me for some reason. To each his own, right? I think I'll pass on this one as well. Doesn't quite appeal to me, although I'm sure others will love it. Sorry this wasn't one for you either but I totally understand!

ReplyDeleteI too have heard great things about Looking For Alaska but haven't read it yet. I sounds interesting but I think I'll wait a little longer before picking up a copy.
ReplyDeleteto anyone who hasn't yet read anything by John Green and doesn't plan on doing so: please reconsider. I know, of course not every book or author is for everyone, but at least give it a try! For example, "The Fault in our Stars" is very different to his other books (starting by the obvious that this time, it's written from a girl's point of view). Really, you should. Especially those of you who are really into YA. I think it's vital for YA-lovers to at least try out one or some of John's books. (Of course this is not to be understood as an order, just a suggestion! (: )
