Review: A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies - Juhina

A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark, #1)

Title: A Beautiful Dark (A Beautiful Dark #1)
Author: Jocelyn Davies
Publication date: September 27, 2011
Genre(s): Young Adult (Paranormal - Angels)
Publisher: HarperTeen
Source: Ebook
Pages: 390
On the night of Skye's seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites;like fire and ice;Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye's life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can't help falling for, and Devin, who she can't stay away from, the consequences of Skye's choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.

Throw in a mysterious boy, multiply it by two, divide them by one girl, you find yourself in a love triangle (math geeks, don’t even comment on how mathematically impossible that is). A Beautiful Dark was full of secrets, anticipation, and confusion between whom you want Skye to end up with; Asher or Devin.
The first things I notice in a book (after the cover) are the names. I hate when authors make up weird confusing similar names for characters, or plain, forgettable ones. However, Skye, Asher, and Devin are such amazing and unique names that I actually didn’t have to open the book and remember their names to write this review! Also the synopsis was very intriguing, and with a love triangle? This seems to be a popular theme nowadays, and trust me, I'm not complaining!
The climax happened towards the end but I felt there wasn't much time for explanations; everything wrapped up too fast for me to comprehend what was going on. This was my only complaint when I read this book. I wished the author gave the ending conflict/fight more pages, so I was left very confused and shocked when I found out that I have reached the last page of the book.
Overall even though I was a bit disappointed with the ending (due to my ultra high expectations), I tremendously enjoyed A Beautiful Dark. I will definitely be looking out for the second book to come out, and all you fallen angels lovers should too!
An awesome beat, keep on drummin'
