"You have to kill him." Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.

Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend James since the day he moved next door when they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Now someone is trying to kill him. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was.

Cristin Terrill is a young adult author and aspiring grown-up. She grew up semi-nomadic and graduated from Vassar College with a degree in drama. After getting her masters in Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon, she lived in London, Austin, Boston, and Washington, DC while working as a theatrical stage manager. Now she writes and leads creative writing workshops for DC-area kids and teens. All Our Yesterdays is her first novel.

All Our Yesterdays was a roller coaster ride for me. It was crazy at first, and then I got used to it and started enjoying it more. I have never read a time travel book, and this one being my first, I did not expect this at all. I was so confused at first, you would have laughed if you saw my expression. I was so mad and annoyed because I needed this book to make sense for me NOW! I think I was about a hundred pages in until I finally understood everything and started enjoying the story. All Our Yesterdays is told from two point of views, from Em's and Marina's. Em is locked in a room where she is being somewhat tortured into giving these "documents" to a doctor whose name isn't mentioned. When she finds a list of instructions she wrote in a previous time, she understands what she has to do in order to prevent the creation of a time machine that has ruined the world. She has to "kill him", and that's her final choice.
Marina's story was more interesting at first because it's the one that made sense for me, haha. Marina is about 16 years old, and is crushing on her neighbor, James. James is her childhood friend who is apparently a genius, and is working on his PhD at the age of 18.  We then learn how all of these characters are related, and that's when the story gets intense! Finn was one of my favorite characters in this book, and his relationship with Em was really cute! Like I said before, this was the first time travel book I read, and I LOVED it! It was so interesting, and I just couldn't stop reading and finding out more. Each and every character grew on me, and all of them felt special to me. The world building was great, and I felt like everything was well planned by the author. Time was a major factor of this book, and that's what made me worry about something not going as it was supposed to.
A lot of stuff were kind of expected, but that didn't make me enjoy the book any less. Though that ending was HORRIBLE. I did not expect any of it, and I felt so shocked I couldn't believe what happened. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series. Thanks to this book, I will definitely be checking out other time travel books. Who thought that reading about time traveling would be this exciting? Not me! haha!

  3. Great review! I'm surprised that you haven't come across any time travel books yet - YA is flooded with them. You should keep an eye out for After Eden that comes out next year. It's just as good. :-)

  7. Haha I am the same way! I get so frustrated when I am confused with a more "mysterious" or just confusing book. I always want to read faster so I can get to the part where it is all revealed and I finally understand

    Thanks for the great review!
