The only thing worse than forgetting her past... is remembering it.

When Freedom Airlines flight 121 went down over the Pacific Ocean, no one ever expected to find survivors. Which is why the sixteen-year-old girl discovered floating among the wreckage—alive—is making headlines across the globe.

Even more strange is that her body is miraculously unharmed and she has no memories of boarding the plane. She has no memories of her life before the crash. She has no memories period. No one knows how she survived. No one knows why she wasn’t on the passenger manifest. And no one can explain why her DNA and fingerprints can’t be found in a single database in the world.

Crippled by a world she doesn’t know, plagued by abilities she doesn’t understand, and haunted by a looming threat she can’t remember, Seraphina struggles to piece together her forgotten past and discover who she really is. But with every clue only comes more questions. And she’s running out of time to answer them.

Her only hope is a strangely alluring boy who claims to know her from before the crash. Who claims they were in love. But can she really trust him? And will he be able to protect her from the people who have been making her forget?
I remember the first time I laid eyes on this cover, I fell in love! It was so simple, yet so beautiful in so many ways. Of course, loving the cover means I have to get my hands on the book as soon as possible. The synopsis sounded very promising, and I could't wait to find out more. The main protagonist Sera, cannot remember anything in her past. Now named Violet, because of her eyes, she is trying to fit the pieces of her past together. When mysterious boy Zen tells her the truth, both of them try to fix what's lost.
Honestly, this book was not enjoyable. I'm writing this review write now, and I'm not able to remember ONE thing that happened. I only read it like two months ago, but I had to do a bit of research to have my memory refreshed. The characters did not stand out at all, and I wasn't able to connect to Sera, or Zenn. Their sudden "romance" was unbelievable, and it just didn't feel right. Jessica Brody's writing was good, but I guess the story just wasn't that great for me. It wasn't something new, and it felt really predictable as well. The shocking ending was something that didn't make me happy, not even excited as to what will happen in the future.
Overall, I just don't think this book was for me. The flow of the book was good, writing was good, but the characters and the story itself was what I didn't really enjoy. I don't think I'll be picking up  the second book either. Though I do recommend you to give it a try, because every one still has their own opinions.

  1. Bummer. This sounded really mysterious and interesting but I have been seeing a lot of reviews that say the characters and romance were really lacking.

  2. I've been contemplating this book for awhile. But have heard some mixed reviews on it. That sucks that both the characters and the romance wasn't up to par. Thanks for the honest opinion!

  3. I still have mixed feeling about reading this one. It has gotten back and forth reviews, so I think I will wait and see if my library is going to carry it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it. Sorry you care for it too.

  5. I'm hearing such mixed things about this book. I'm so curious to read it for myself and find out if I'm like you and don't like it or if I do. Thanks for sharing!

  6. That is such a shame! I hate disappointing books, especially when you are excited about them. The cover is so pretty and the concept sounds great. I like books about amnesia, but a sudden romance isn't something I enjoy..

  7. I have been reading lots of mixed reviews on this one and I have a feeling my thoughts will be in line with yours. I know Sam wasn't the biggest fan of this one and I am awaiting Maja's review since we tend to be book soul sistas! Anyway, thanks for your honest opinion, I am convinced that this isn't the right one for me.

  8. I'm only halfway through this one but already I feel underwhelmed. The only moderately appealing thing is the exploration of memory loss, so once she gets that back, there'll be nothing left to keep me reading. Ah, well. :(
    Great review, Farah.

  9. This is the second review I've read for this one today and you both pretty much had the same things to say. Like you I fell in love with this cover and that's kind of why I have a copy on my shelf. I was really hoping for something awesome but after reading all these reviews I think I'm going to lower my expectations a lot! Thanks for the honest review!

  10. Thanks for your honest review, what a bummer that you didn't enjoy this one. If you like this sort of subject, a more promising novel along the topic of "forgotten past" is Slated by Terri Terry. It won't disappoint, I posted a review on my blog :D

  11. NOOO. I was so excited to read this book! I agree with you, the synopsis definitely sounds promising. So sorry to hear that it's not memorable at all! :( Maybe Brody should just stick with contemporary >.< I think I'll still check it out, like you said, to gather my own opinion on it, but thanks for the honest review, Farah!

  12. I think it's really hard to enjoy a story when we couldn't connect with the characters. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Farah! I hope your next-read would be more satisfying.

  13. Oh, yikes. I have this book and I haven't had a chance to read it. I was already a little nervous because I've read a LOT of amnesia books in the past couple weeks.

  14. Hmm. That sucks. But I've heard similar things. Sera sounds like a really boring character, and the romance...ick. Great review, girly! (:

  16. Oh no I thought this one looked good. But if you actually can't remember a thing about it I'm definitely skipping it. There are so many better books out there.

  20. Ah, that is disappointing! I remember wanting to read it too when I saw the cover! At the same time, I'm relieved I don't have to get it now.

    Great review!

  21. I'm sorry to hear you didn't enjoy Unremembered! I read it a few days ago and really loved it! I can see why people might not like it, and all I've seen are mixed reviews for it but i think if you can get past the "done before" aspect of the plot the rest of it really is interesting! :)
