Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.
During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.
In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.
With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.
Even if it costs her eternity.
The Goddess Inheritance is the final installment in The Goddess Test trilogy. It is a greek mythology trilogy that centers around the god of the underworld finding a wife and partner for eternity. This is a spoil free review for all three books. First of all, I was a bit hesitant in starting this one because while I loved The Goddess Test, I wasn't a big fan of Goddess Interrupted. I didn't like the direction Aimee Carter took with the story and to put it simple, I didn't really love this finale as much as I hoped I would either, it was closer to Goddess Interrupted than The Goddess Test. Kate and Henry are still in so much crap, their lives are all at stake, along with all the other gods and evil seems that this time it will win.
I enjoyed the action, especially the plotting and such, however I wasn't a big fan of the way everyone was treating Kate; basically a useless, helpless, girl. I wished they took her seriously but at the same time I wished she would use her brain for five minutes and think of the consequences of her attempts at trying to help, when all that happens is her messing up things even worse. Yes, she is that kind of character. I really wished she grew up of her Goddess Interrupted stage and for Carter to bring back the confident and independent character I witnessed in The Goddess Test. Unfortunetly her devotion to her family as well as selflessness were not enough to keep my frustrations of her at bay.
As for James, I know people didn't like his agenda, but I found him to be the most human and interesting secondary character in this series. He was the crying shoulder and the helping hand when Kate needed it. He would have definitely been my favorite character but I also have a soft spot for Henry. We don't see much of him in this book but I just loved him here. He was sweet, a true protector and a worthy love interest in my books. I have to say that most of the book was spent with Henry and Kate apart and I just wished we had more time with both of them together, a bit of peace and quiet before the storm, but at least the few scenes between them were really sweet.
All in all I have to say that The Goddess Test is still my favorite out of these books, but Carter wrote the ending with the evil thought that we would all now never be able to forget the last book. It is bittersweet, I can only warn you of that, but as usual (of course we all know that) good prevails. I would definitely recommend it to fans of YA greek mythology. I will also be picking up Aimee Carter's new series when it comes out!

Great review :D I'm glad you mostly loved this book :) I still haven't started this series.. but I have all the books, and I can't wait to read them :) They do sound amazing. But sniffs. Not much of Henry and Kate together in this book? Do not approve :\ I hate it when the couple is apart for a long time.. Sigh. Anyway. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDelete(Also, uhm, I might have left a kind of long comment on your comment on my blog (A) hih. <3 http://carinabooks.blogspot.no/2013/02/in-my-mailbox-67.html?showComment=1361977020109#c6969804547856923471)
DeleteIt's good to hear that the final for this series is decent but I'm not surprised that you didn't love it, I wasn't really a fan of the first too so not sure if I should skip this one.
ReplyDeleteI've heard a lot of people mention the same sort of things about Kate now. I reckon I'd get very frustrated with her. I didn't enjoy the first book enough to continue with this series, but I'm glad it ended on a satisfactory note for you. Great review as always!
ReplyDeleteI kind of thought Kate was turning into "that" character in Goddess Interrupted, too, unfortunately. I had hoped she'd redeem herself in this book, but from the reviews I've read, it doesn't sound like it. Part of the reason I'm not in the biggest hurry to read this. Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these yet, unfortunately. Is Kate a weak character? She sounds like a really frustrating main character... I hope I get to these eventually. Great review!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your review on Born Wicked and Vampire Academy! Ooh, and Stolen!
I completely agree Juhina! I really wanted more time with Henry and Kate together in this last book, and definitely wanted Kate to take a few minutes to come up with a plan that didn't include self-sacrifice of one kind or another. Still, I really enjoy these books and I'm looking forward to more of Aimee Carter:)
ReplyDeleteWhile I had my issues with this series, I definitely liked it enough to want to read this last installment. James was one of my favorite characters, and I'm so happy that you liked him, too. This is a wonderful and honest review. Thank you for sharing and for stopping by my blog. Happy Reading!
ReplyDeleteWhoa -- I am so behind in this series. Kate is pregnant -- what???
ReplyDeleteKate tended to annoy me a lot. But I did enjoy this one :) I didn't even know this was a trilogy! There was way more action in this than there was in book 2. I was really disappointed in that one. Awesome review Juhina!

I felt the same way. The ending just wasn't doing it for me. If it had been written different, I think I would have enjoyed it more.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this series, and I don't think I'm going to either. I didn't really like the sound of the synopsis, I just couldn't connect with it. I do like Greek myth, but I don't know, just not my thing I guess. lol ;p I like the action aspect of this though. Awesome review, Juhina! :D

I didn't enjoy the first book of the series, and seeing how it went, I'm a little glad I didn't continue. Still, great review!
ReplyDeleteI just read it and had the same thoughts. I really loved James in this one!
ReplyDeleteI actually really enjoyed this one and will be posting a review on it soon. I just love Henry so much it hurts!!! Lol.
ReplyDeleteExcuse my fan-girling moment. Anyway I agree, It would have been nice to see Kate grow up a little and James was a very refreshing and humorous character. I love this series. Thanks for sharing. I am now following your blog and I'd love it if you checked out mine.

This series was worth reading. It brought a whole new twist onto the Persephone/Hades myth and evolved it into an entirely different story. If the author ever decides to write a spin-off where James finds his true love, I'd definitely check it out!
